Paint is a quick way to get the color you want on your gun and lots of troops just shoot their gun with some Krylon and call it good. But it’s not durable and most paints wear quickly. Enter duracoat by Lauer Weaponry in Wisconsin. They make a huge variety of durable epoxy finishes for guns that promise to wear extremely well. Moreover YOU, yes YOU, can even apply it. This is a quick video showing my application of “Stone” color duracoat to a Remington 700P .300WM rifle after appropriate preparation. The duracoat “Level II Starter Kit” includes an airbrush, air hose and couplings, 15 oz propellant can (which didn’t work well for me… had to use hobby air compressor for good results), mixing bottle, color bottle, mask, gloves, measuring spoons, 2 oz reducer, 1 oz trulube (not used), and good instructions. Surface preparation is the most time consuming task; you’ll need to rough up smooth surfaces for preparation (Lauer also sells metal prep liquids which I feel are unnecessary). Make sure you do this in a ventilated area as shown. Results are impressive and I suspect I will be using their camo stencil kits in the future. Downsides are more expense (but much cheaper than other finishes like Robar’s NP3), more work than painting and it might be hard to relate the catalog color to your desired shade (mine was lighter than depicted)./////////////Nutnfancy Initial Likeability Scale: 9 out of 10

Thanks for the input I was at a local hobby store yesterday and the cheapest “hobby compressor” they had was $330!! so I went ahead and bought a Craftsman compressor that looks just like the one in this vid and it had a regulator build in and I bought a water/oil sep too

Just get a different pressure regulator. Nutn is probably having problems with that hose because of over pressurization. A water/oil separator or filter is a good thing to run for spraying. If you don’t have/need a full sized compressor you can get a air brush specific compressor for around $100. Check out TCP Global, Harbor Freight, hobby shops, etc.
I was going to buy a compressor just like the one you use but the Sears employee said it would be too powerful for a small airbrush and when I was viewing Duracoats page it said 10-12 pounds output pressure is what you need and it looked like the compressors sears had all started out around 20 pounds
But it did seem to work you pretty well
Right on about the spray paint. We hang our junk from coat hangers and spray paint it, then take it out. The edges and raised parts show wear first, but we don’t really care, we’ll hit it again, it gets the job done.

if you use an air compressor use a moisture trap so no moisture gets into the duracoat
hmm i have considered this for my Carbon 15, but i think just some spray paint will do just fine, since it rarely gets used..
But if i get that savage .308 i been looking at…hmmm

a compressor with at least 35 psi , metal is advised to be glass blasted. i found a wmv file online with the full instructional video in about 10 parts. basically it says desgress blow off, paint with airbruss or LVHP spraygun let dry 20 min per layer in oven or hour without . there is also a clear matt for blue metal

Im kind of a beginner. My GSG 5 paint sucks! Would it be hard to Dura Coat it?
this could be worth a note here ; in the auto paint world it is an absolute must to wear skin protection and breathing apparatus w/ epoxy paint . if you breathe enough it will harden on the surface of your lungs and you will suffocate to death . some elements are also cummulative and are absorbed through the skin , a worthy warning to the viewers .
